John McGuiness is currently chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach. He is TD for the Carlow- Kilkenny constituency.
He was Fianna Fail spokesperson on Spokesperson on Small Business Regulatory Framework in the last Dáil and was also Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee; First elected to the Dáil in 1997; Minister for Trade and Commerce in 2007 – 2009; Elected to Kilkenny Corporation in 1979 and to Kilkenny County Council in 1991 Mayor of Kilkenny in 1996, becoming the third generation of his family to hold the office; His grand Uncle John was Mayor eight times and his father, Michael was Mayor seven times.
