Sean Fleming was born in The Swan, Co. Laois in 1958 and he attended The Swan National School before going onto second level education in the Salesian College Ballinakill, Co. Laois. He has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and is a Chartered Accountant.
Sean was employed as the Financial Director of the Fianna Fáil Party at national level for a number of years. He was chairperson of Castletown Tidy Towns Committee when they won the overall National Tidy Towns Award in 2002. During this time he was also treasurer of the local G.A.A. Club. He is married to Mary and they live in Castletown, Co. Laois.
In 1997 Sean was elected as a Fianna Fáil T.D. to Dáil Eireann and he continues to represent the constituency of Laois/Offaly to this day. He was also elected a member of Laois County Council in 1999 and served there for over 4 years. Sean was Chairman of the Oireachtas Finance Committee from 2002 to 2007 and Chairman of the Oireachtas Environment, Heritage and Local Government Committee from 2007 to 2011. Currently he is a member of the influential Dáil Public Accounts Committee, is also a member of the Oireachtas Finance and Public Expenditure Committee and is the Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform.
