Jim O’Callaghan was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD in the 2016 general election and is now the party’s spokesperson on Justice and Equality. Since being elected he has introduced a number of private members Bills including a Parole Bill, a Domestic Violence (Amendment) Bill, an Equality (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, and a Civil Liability (Amendment) (Prevention of Benefits from Homicide) Bill.
Jim studied law in UCD, graduating with a BCL degree. He has a Masters in Law and an M.Phil in criminology from Cambridge University and a BL degree from the Kings Inns. In 2008 he became a Senior Counsel and in 2014 he co-edited a book entitled Law and Government: A Tribute to Rory Brady.
