Prof. Michael Kennedy

Michael Kennedy is the Executive Editor of the Royal Irish Academy’s Documents on Irish Foreign Policy Series.

Since 1998, under Dr Kennedy’s direction, the series has published ten volumes of select documents from the archives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade covering 1919 to 1957. Volume XI (1957-61) will be published in November 2018.

For over twenty-five years Dr Kennedy has also published widely on the history of Irish foreign policy and Irish military and political history. His most recent publications include Ireland, the United Nations and the Congo (2014) and Ireland and Japan, 1957–2017: diplomatic, economic and cultural connections (with Dr Eoin Kinsella) (2017).

He is currently working on a centenary history of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with his colleagues Dr Kate O’Malley and Dr John Gibney.

Dr Kennedy regularly appears on radio and television commenting on areas of modern Irish political and diplomatic history.
