Enda Kenny

Enda Kenny was Taoiseach from 2011 to 2017. In 2002 he was appointed leader of Fine Gael and became Taoiseach in 2011. He was re-elected Taoiseach on 6 May 2016 for a second term. In May 2017 he announced he was stepping down as leader of the Fine Gael Party and was replaced as leader and Taoiseach by Leo Varadkar.

He served as Vice-President of the European’s People’s Party for two terms and was Ireland’s Minister for Tourism and Trade from 1994 to 1997 and Minister for State at the Department of Education, Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Western Development, Youth Affairs and Sport in the 1980s.

Kenny became a Fine Gael TD (Teachta Dála) for Mayo in 1975. He succeeded his father Henry Kenny’s seat.
