Deirdre O’Shaughnessy is Opinion Editor and podcaster at the Irish Examiner.
In her previous role as News Editor at the title (2020-2025), she oversaw its news coverage in print and online as well as developing new podcast strands including IE Investigations (Catherine the Fake, Unforgiven, The Lost American, Death by Rooster).
In that period the Irish Examiner news team’s work won numerous awards including Newsbrands Digital News Service of the year 2021, podcast of the year 2022 (The Lost American) and front page of the year 2021 (Bessborough babies front page).
She has worked in local radio and newspapers in Cork, Galway and Limerick and has been a regular contributor to national print, TV and radio throughout her career.
Deirdre holds an LLB in Law & European Studies from the University of Limerick and an MSc in Government and Public Policy from University College Cork.
